The HP Photosmart 325 is a small, fully-featured 4x6" photo printer that makes it easy to print good quality pictures. Physically replacing cartridges is relatively easy as the cartridge door opens downwards and the ink cartridge slides in and clicks in place with minimal force (but it is the cost of HP inkjet cartridges and paper that may hurt you.) Out of the box the HP Photosmart 325 printer comes with one #95 Tri-color Cartridge with Vivera Inks (7ml), but most do not realize that continuing with the HP Vivera inkjet cartridge option will significantly hurt your wallet and limit your choices of printing paper (also increasing your printing costs).

The HP Photosmart 325 actually can also utilize the 97 tri-color (standard capacity, 14ml), or 100 greyphoto (15ml) cartridge. The standard capacity cartridge (HP 97) retails for $34.99 and should net roughly 125 4x6" photo prints. This puts the ink cost of each print to about $0.28 each, but wait, there is still the cost of paper. A standard, 60-sheet package of Premium photo paper costs about $14.99 retail, which puts the paper-cost of each print at about $0.25 each. Between both the ink and the paper, your total cost per print comes to about $0.53 per photo print.

But did you know that there are options for cutting your costs for HP Photosmart 325 printing by half or more without compromising color quality, and at the same time increasing your options for printing surfaces?

Speciality inks from www.UniquePhotoPrinting.com enable you to print quality color photographs at less than half the cost. These speciality inks (you cannot buy them anywhere else) are well designed for "sticking" to most any printable surface including: photopapers (gloss, semi-gloss, satin, hi-gloss), film-clear, film-backlit, presentation bond, poster paper, outdoor media, canvas, vinyl, sticky-back vinyl, and even waterproof paper. Take a little time to check out their photo quality comparisons and their HP compatible inkjet cartridge list where you can compare the costs.

More on HP Photosmart 325 Printer Capabilities:

The HP Photosmart 325 printer has memory card slots that can read just about every card type available. Once the memory card has been inserted, it automatically detects and reads the images. This means you can utilize just about any digital camera that you want and transfer the images to the printer without the use of a computer. You view and select the picture you want by using the 1.5" color LCD screen on the printer. Another nice option is to utilize the HP Photosmart 325's bluetooth capability where you can send pictures directly from your bluetooth enabled device (camera or phone) to the printer.

This does not preclude you from printing from your computer with your HP Photosmart 325 printer as you can print any photos that you have stored on the PC. The PC printing software HP provides has been good and yet easy to use with all of their printers. The imaging gallery portion of the software lets you view all the pictures in any directory on your computer. With the software you can do:
  • image rotation
  • color & brightness adjustment
  • red-eye elimination
  • strong photo album template capability and choices
  • and more...

Printing speed is relatively quick so each photo takes less than a minute to print. There are multiple options for photo printing: 1, 2, 4, or an index of 16 pictures done on each 4x6" photo sheet. You can load up to 20 sheets of photo paper into the tray, but some have reported problems with printing more than 5 pictures at a time (paper jams). It is not for high volume printing.

Issues:

Because the paper is loaded vertically, dust and particles can tend to settle into the gears of the machine affect how well the paper is fed through. Consequently it is a good idea to keep an eye on this and be sure the gears running the paper feed are kept clean to avoid problems.
